Catching Up With Maggie Bodington!

We caught up with Maggie Bodington this summer, one of the recipients of the 2014 Victoria Soto Scholarship, to see how college is going! She told us that she loves campus life and that going to Eastern Connecticut State University was one of the best decisions she’s ever made. We know Vicki would agree too, as ECSU was Vicki’s Alma Mater! Maggie said, “It’s small enough that I can walk through campus and say hi to at least three people, but it’s big enough that I still don’t know everyone! The dorms are also really nice too!”

Originally a Health and Physical Education major, Maggie has switched to a Communication and Elementary Education major at ECSU. She credits Vicki as the reason for the change saying, “When I went home for winter break my freshman year, I was on Facebook and saw a picture that Mrs. Soto had posted of Vicki in her classroom. She looked so happy and the classroom looked so adorable!! It made me want to have that!! I realized I wanted to have more than a 45 minute interaction with student’s everyday too!”

Maggie has made Dean’s List almost every semester so far. She plays both soccer and lacrosse at ECSU and this past fall, she was the first sophomore in program history to gain All-America recognition in soccer when she was selected for the NSCAA All-America Third Team. This past spring, Maggie was also a first team All-Conference selection in lacrosse.

Way to go Maggie!

This summer, she has been an assistant coach at the Berkshire Soccer Academy for Girls in East Otis, Massachusetts. Maggie said, “It’s helping me become a better coach and really showing me that being in an educational environment is definitely a place that I want to be in for the rest of my life.”

Maggie is heading into her Junior Year this fall. She said, “I’m most looking forward to starting the education program this year at school! It’ll be the first time I’ll be put in the classroom for observing and I couldn’t be more excited!”

We wish Maggie much continued success, both in education and sports, as she heads into this upcoming semester. We know Maggie will make an incredible teacher in her own classroom one day and we wish her all the best as she starts in the ECSU educational program.
