LETTER: Thank You Team Vicki Soto

Dear Team Vicki Soto,

I cannot thank you enough for always supporting the children, parents, and teachers of our town, most recently through your town-wide book drive. Please know that as a teacher, it was such an overwhelmingly wonderful feeling to see how many people were willing to donate books to benefit our children and classrooms. These books will be treasured once again, and will quickly find their way into the hands of eager readers.

So many teachers have students with a wide range of reading abilities and strengths. To be able to find books at these students’ instructional level was meaningful in ways that go beyond reading skills and ability. Providing a child with a book that he or she is able to read successfully helps us to give them the confidence and motivation to continue to learn and grow.

New teachers, or those who are new to a grade level, were able to walk away with bags and boxes of books, which they will use to start or add to their classroom libraries. Many or most of the books available for children to read in their classrooms are purchased or supplied by the classroom teachers themselves. The Team Vicki Soto book drive gave Stratford teachers a place to go to find valuable resources that will support our students’ individual needs, interests, and their self-confidence.

It is so incredibly moving to see all of the wonderful and impactful ways Team Vicki Soto continues to honor Vicki’s legacy of love and learning. The town-wide book drive which supported our teachers and students, the Miss Soto Free Library, as well as the Miss Soto’s Literacy Legacy programs are just some of the ways that she continues to make a difference in the lives of children. Because of the wonderful work that you do, all of our students in Stratford are, in a way, “Vicki’s kids.”

On behalf of the teachers of Stratford,
I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Happy New Year, From The Sotos

As 2015 comes to a close, we want to thank everyone for their continued support. While the heartbreak and pain never goes away, the support we continue to gain from across the country is amazing. The country has not forgotten our hero, as we never will. Our community continues to support our family in so many ways including the opening of the Victoria Soto School this August and allowing us to put on our 3rd 5K which was a huge success, thanks to all involved. We have started the Miss Soto’s literacy program in our town and hope to expand this coming year. It warms our hearts when we see “Team Vicki” shirts and hoodies out in the community or in pictures on Instagram. We may not come up to you but know we do notice and thank you. There are so many things to mention, we ask you to continue visiting our website for all the up to date information on our foundation.

Personally, our family was blessed with a baby boy in June who brings joy and light to our lives. Vicki’s siblings have been successful as well. Jillian is working with a survivor group and attending college, Matt at our local community college and Carlee raising her beautiful son with her husband Brent. All help to run the foundation. And mom tries to keep it all together. We could not accomplish what we do without our families-you know who you are!

We will continue to honor Vicki and hope she is smiling down on her family and friends as we continue to spread her legacy to LIVE LAUGH + LOVE <3

Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year!
Donna, Jillian, Carlee, Matt, Brent and Kyllian

Happy 2016 New Year

Book Drive! Calling All Teachers!

Before the new school year begins, The Vicki Soto Memorial Fund Inc. would like to help fill your classroom libraries! The Miss Soto’s Literacy Legacy Program has partnered with the Scholastic Company “Open a World of Possible” Fund. They have generously donated over 100 boxes of books to support our literacy efforts.

The “Open a World of Possible” initiative was established to help children learn to read and love to read, which aligns with our program. Over 5,000 books from your alphabet to NY best sellers, supporting grades PreK-12 are represented. Vicki was a true believer in the mission of the Scholastic Company. Ironically, she was at their store the night before 12.14.12 purchasing books for her classroom library.

A great source of sadness was the loss of her classroom library. A great source of sadness was the loss of all of her precious books. Throughout our book drives and our literacy program, Miss Soto’s classroom libraries live on and continue to grow.

Please join us August 5th and 6th at our office located at  3333 Main Street, Suite 203 in Stratford Connecticut 06614 from 11:00am-5:00pm to stock your classroom library with books, books, and more books! Teachers, please remember to bring your teacher ID’s to receive the books for free! We look forward to seeing you there!
